First Japanese artist in 30 years
The 2021 art label features the work of Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota. This is the first time in 30 years that a Japanese artist has been selected for this art label, following Naoro Domoto in 1979 and Setsuko Balthus in 1991.
While confronting the fundamental human issues of life and death, Mr. Shioda explores ``What is living?'' and ``What is existence?'' while pursuing the consistent theme of ``Presence in absence.'' I am an artist who creates large-scale installations. Currently based in Berlin.
Here is the 2021 art label that was unveiled. The title of the work is "Universe of Mouton".
The painting depicts a person standing in front of an abundance of red nature, as if there is a balance between nature and humans. The four lines that connect humans and nature represent the four seasons, and the work captures the emotions associated with the four seasons and grape growing, such as loneliness, hope, and a sense of accomplishment.
Mr. Shioda says the following about the creation of his work.
When I visited the chateau, I was inspired by the relationship between the chateau and nature. People are subservient to the weather and allow the environment in which the grapes grow without conflicting with Mother Nature.
I believe that the effort to maintain a balance between humans and nature is what makes Mouton Rothschild wine.
Mr. Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, a member of the owner family who is in charge of selecting artists for Art Label, was fascinated by Chiharu Shiota's worldview, which is similar to the world of wine.
``This is what could be called ``metaphorical realism,'' and it brings to mind the image of a cultivator enologist firmly holds onto the finest grapes in the world.''
